About Coronavirus COVID-19

The Lubbock Independent School District is closely monitoring the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) and is in contact with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), and the City of Lubbock Health Department to ensure all students and staff members are safe and updated with the latest information.

This particular virus has obviously raised anxiety levels among students, staff, and parents. Our commitment to you, as educators, is to stay abreast of the latest developments, take the necessary precautions, plan for any contingency, expand our cleaning protocols, encourage proper hygiene to prevent the spread of disease and help our students understand this situation without creating an unhealthy level of concern. We are working to balance these significant responsibilities.

Emphasizing facts over fear is an important part of our student health messaging with families. The information below is to reassure parents that Lubbock ISD takes the health and safety of our students and staff seriously. Prevention remains our priority. Regular communication will be sent to families providing updates, recognition of symptoms, prevention, and protection.

Lubbock ISD has trained, registered nurses at each campus with protocols in place to handle communicable illnesses common to school districts like influenza (flu), pertussis (whooping cough), strep throat, head lice and more. These same protocols would be used when monitoring for other public health concerns such as the Coronavirus.

This web page will be updated as new information or guidelines are provided by public health officials. Thank you for your support and partnership as we work together to maintain a healthy learning environment.
