student-athletes

Coronado HS is now the first school in Lubbock ISD to have a Unified Track Team. This team competed in a practice meet at Lubbock Cooper HS the Tuesday before spring break. The meet consisted of six field and track events: long jump, shot put, 100m dash, 400m run, girls 4X100m relay, and boys 4x100m relay. Unified sports allow students with and without intellectual disabilities the opportunity to play on the same team. Inspired by the simple principle that training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding, the Unified Interscholastic Track and Field was the answer for a group of student-athletes in the district. Through UIL-recognized sports and activities, educators have the opportunity to make profound changes in the lives of students with and without disabilities.
