Specialty Program

At Brown Elementary, Medical-STEM Project Lead The Way (PLTW) class is designed to encourage thinking in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.

In addition to preparing students in all subject areas, students will learn about the healthcare industry within their community and its impact on their lives.  Through the implementation of our Medical-STEM class, the Engineering Design Process and real-world experiences within their community, students will develop transferable skills such as agency, collaboration, communication and problem solving in grades pre-K through 5th grade.

  • Our PLTW Medical-STEM Class’ mission is to provide opportunities that:

    • Students will be introduced and work with the engineering design process

    • Students will work collaboratively

    • Students will work to communicate their ideas and perspectives.

    • Students will experience 'learning by doing' through hands-on experimentation

    • Students will find a love for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math

In their Medical-STEM class, Pre-K through 5th grade students will investigate medical and health Project Lead The Way Launch modules in different grade levels, such as, Healthy Habits, Structure and Function of the Human Body, Variation of Traits, Input/Output of the Human Brain, and Infection Detections. Your PreK-5 students already have the qualities of great designers and innovators. What PLTW Launch does is tap into their exploratory nature, engage them in learning that feels like play, and encourage them to keep discovering – now and for years to come. Through the engineering design process, students will be pushed to think innovatively, take an inquiry stance, define problems, and identify and present solutions. Research shows that students who participate in Project Lead The Way classes outperform their peers in school, are better prepared for post-secondary studies, and are more likely to consider careers as scientists, technology experts, engineers, mathematicians, or healthcare providers. What an exciting way to plant the seeds for medical health fields for our students through these hands-on Medical-STEM activities that they will be able to follow into our feeder Middle School and High school PLTW classes!
