Have we mentioned how many amazing things we have happening in Art class! Check it out! Over the last week or so, 1st grade helped paint a banner for sushi week, students made taco sculptures and interacted with modeling clay!

Yesterday, we held our inaugural 24-25 Student Council meeting! Members of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade student body were nominated for upholding our Plainsmen PRIDE expectations, and will serve as student leaders this school year. We are so proud of the hard work they are already putting in to make our school a better place. We completed value setting activities, and began planning our first service project of the year: The UCan Share Food Drive. Be on the lookout for more information about upcoming service learning opportunities and some sure-to-be outstanding, fun dress up days! Thank you to Ms. Garza, Mrs. Barnwell, Mrs. Scott and Mrs. Sinclair for sponsoring our StuCo leaders this year!

Student in Mrs. Long's class are gearing up for the season! Look at the beautiful fall trees with colorful leaves! I do believe we have some artists in our midst.

Such an incredible, immersive experience! Our 4th graders got to apply their learning of area and perimeter inside JURASSIC PARK! Mrs. Gonzales transformed her room and students loved their learning!

Pre-K had the opportunity to learn from 5th grade this week! 5th grade has been learning about the water cycle and presented what they learned! What a cool opportunity for our biggest Plainsmen to teach our littlest Plainsmen! And then the little Plainsmen went back to their classrooms to show what they learned! Amazing!

How does the texture of the surface affect how far a car will travel? Our 5th graders explored the force caused by friction and its effect on the forward motion of an object!

There are so many cool things happening in our Wheelock library! Most recently, our 5th graders read books by Patricia Polacco including Thank you, Mr. Falker, Mr. Lincoln's Way, and My Rotten Red-Headed Older Brother. They concluded their author study with Patricia Polacco's Grandmother's famous Thunder Cake baked by our very own librarian, Ms. Koehler! Amazing!

Last week in art class with Mrs. Dines, our 5th graders got the most amazing experience! As they continue their cultural learning around the continents, this week they focused on Asia. We had very special guests from Market Street on 19th and Quaker (Thank you, Judy and Priscilla!) to demonstrate sushi making! Students even got to taste the sushi! Later that week, after seeing how it's done by the professionals, our students made their own sushi out of candy. And soon, they'll be applying all that they know to create clay sushi! Thank you, Mrs. Dines!

We are so appreciative of our incredible custodian, Mr. Daniel! Today is Custodian Appreciation Day and we could never express our full gratitude. He takes amazing care of our building and our staff and students. We don't know what we'd do without him!

Students celebrated the first day of Fat Bear Week 2024!They voted for the Jr Fat Bear and have been learning about animals and what they need to survive. This week is one of the most anticipated weeks each year for these classes! You can vote for your favorite Fat Bear at home by visiting explore.org/fat-bear-week

HUGE thanks to a couple of darling 3rd graders who chose to use their recess to help pick up trash around our grounds! Thanks for making our campus beautiful!

Check this out! Pre-K is working on beginning coding skills as part of their STEAM curriculum!
