History

The Byron Martin Advanced Technology Center is a truly unique educational venture involving a number of community partners. This facility opened in August 1997 in a technologically state-of-the-art building through the cooperative efforts of Market Lubbock, Inc., South Plains College, and Lubbock ISD.

The ATC offers classes for students from each of the high schools in Lubbock ISD. We are focused on giving every student access to a truly complete education, with an emphasis on College & Career Readiness. If you attend Lubbock ISD and are looking for the best education possible, the Byron Martin ATC is the place for you.

Our exciting list of programs covers a wide array of interests. The power of our programs, though, is in our teachers, who are experts in their fields. They provide instruction that is balanced with a combination of abundant hands-on time and instruction that is meaningful, real-world, and connected. Our facility houses a number of computer labs and trade and industry labs with advanced computing, multimedia, and production capabilities. We use state-of-the-art equipment in all instructional areas, providing every student at the ATC a truly ‘high-tech, high touch’ experience.

For Lubbock’s youth, the ATC is a priceless opportunity, an opportunity both for now and for the future. Of our current courses, a full 50% offer weighted GPA credit, 21% offer trade certifications, and 54% offer college credit, either through CTE College Credit or through dual credit. Our programs truly enhance students’ preparation for the world they will enter after high school.

A high-level goal of ours is to serve as a regional, state, and national model program, a program whose outcomes include better preparation for Lubbock’s youth, expanded services to our region and community, and continued growth and responsiveness to the world market and to our children’s place in that world.

The ATC exists only because Lubbock educational, city, and community leaders came together and embraced a vision to pool collective resources to establish an education center that will educate and prepare a versatile and capable youth for today’s global marketplace. We invite you to visit the Byron Martin ATC and give yourself the opportunity to learn about one of Lubbock’s truly unique, state-of-the-art facilities. Come and find out how you can be a part of the Lubbock ISD Byron Martin Advanced Technology Center.
