Anita Carmona-Harrison Elementary School is a consolidation of three Lubbock ISD campuses; Jackson (1947), Guadalupe (1922), and Wright (1961). It is a product of the 2018 bond. It was determined the campus would be an agricultural STEM school, the only elementary Ag-STEM campus in Lubbock ISD. It opened its doors for the first time in August 2021.

The Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees voted to name the new elementary school in North Lubbock after Anita Carmona-Harrison, a longtime educator at Lubbock ISD.

According to the district, Carmona-Harrison was the first Latina to attend Lubbock ISD schools in K-12. She went on to graduate from Texas Tech with a degree in elementary education. 

Carmona-Harrison championed bilingual education in the district, and was instrumental in developing the first curriculum guide for bilingual kindergarten in 1969, LISD wrote in a news release. She taught for more than 30 years and she remains active in community service work.  

Dr. Alma Cunningtubby, principal at Jackson and Guadalupe, was named principal for the new school in September 2020. Dr. Cunningtubby underwent the New School Design Fellowship when designing its instructional core and school culture.
