History

Jayne Ann Miller was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 9, 1950 to C. Lincoln Williston, IV and Jane Leucht Williston. She graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Austin and obtained her bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Texas Tech University. Jayne Ann married David Miller on June 3, 1972. She taught special education at Wheatley Elementary and was a home-bound teacher for students with special needs. As a former First Lady of Lubbock, she served as a community volunteer in many capacities. She was chapter advisor for Chi Omega Sorority and was a board member for Marian Moss Enterprises, the Louise Underwood Center for the Arts, University Medical Center Foundation, and Spirit Ranch. She was also an active member of Lubbock Symphony Guild, American Heart Association, Texas Tech Chancellor's Council, Lubbock Women's Club, Junior League of Lubbock, and Indiana Avenue Baptist Church. Jayne Ann supported her kids' PTA programs, serving as president at Waters Elementary, Evans Junior High, and Monterey High School, and she was president of the Monterey Booster Club. In recognition of her years of service, she was a recipient of a Life Membership in the Texas State PTA and of the Pat S. Moore Award from the Junior League of Lubbock. As you can see, Jayne Ann Miller was a nurturing and passionate educator for so many and gave her time and service selflessly.

Groundbreaking for the new Jayne Ann Miller Elementary School included LISD Superintendent Berhl Robertson, Principal Kevin Booe, and LISD School Board members. The new building, located at 6705 Joliet Drive, opened January 2015.
