Roy Roberts Elementary opened its doors for its inaugural school year in August 2007. The school was named after life-long Lubbock resident, Roy W. Roberts. He was the band director at Dunbar High School from 1952-1970. Roberts then became an assistant principal at Estacado High School for the next 2 years. His career peaked as he was assigned as a principal at Dunbar High School from 1971-1978. After the school changed its named to Dunbar-Struggs, he continued as principal until 1984. He is remembered as a passionate educator who touched many lives and as a man who deeply cared about his students and expected great things of them. We are proud to be named after such a great and influential community leader.
