🎉 Celebrating Education and Empowerment! 🎓✨ We're thrilled to celebrate our fourth annual 2025 Foundation For Excellence (FFE) grant winners! This year, we celebrated some incredible students and teachers who epitomize the spirit of learning, innovation, and resilience. Since its inception, FFE has awarded more than $1.2 million in grants to Lubbock ISD students and teachers. 🌟 Scholarship Winners: Over the past two years, FFE has awarded $50,000 through the Doyle Vogler Memorial Scholarship to students from Lubbock ISD's five high schools. The scholarship is awarded to students that embody the Lubbock ISD mission, vision, and values. 🍎 Teacher and Student Grants: Our stellar educators are always looking for innovative ways to support exciting projects in the classroom. Their passion for teaching ensures our students receive the highest learning experience and quality education. FFE also awarded students grants for specialized learning opportunities. Preston Smith ES began the week with special visits from Miss Lubbock's Teen Hannah Gilchrest (Lubbock HS student), Miss Lubbock Karleigh Smith, and Miss Texas Annette Addo-Yobo where they shared messages of being kind, supportive, curious, and lending a helping hand when others are need. Lubbock ISD is thrilled to announce Coronado HS senior Tyler Jackson has committed to continue his academic and athletic swim career at the University of Evansville! 🏫 During his high school career, Tyler has accomplished some notable accolades including (brace yourselves): 🏅Four-time District finalist 🏅District champion in the 200 IM and 100 free 🏅 Four-time Regional finalist 🏅 Regional champion in the 200 IM and 100 free 🏅 Four-time State qualifier 🏅 State finalist in the 200 free, 200 IM, and 500 free 🏅 First Team All-State in the 500 free and 200 IM 🏅 Second Team All-State in the 200 free and 100 free 🏅 Academic All-State 🏅 Three-time Coronado HS Male Swimmer of the Year (MVP) 🏅 Coronado HS Team Captain 🏅 Coronado HS record holder in the 100 free, 200 free, 500 free, and 200 IM 📚 Member of the National Honors Society 🌟 Member of Who's Who among American high school students Tyler will join the Purple Aces swim team in Evansville, Indiana where he intends to study mechanical engineering with an emphasis on aerospace engineering. 🔬🚀 We are so proud of all his accomplishments and we cannot wait to see what the future holds for Tyler. Lubbock ISD is proud to announce Jose Perez as the new head coach of the Lubbock High School boys basketball program! 🏀 Jose is a proud Lubbock High School graduate and he returns to his alma mater with six years of coaching experience and a deep connection to the community. He mostly recently coached at Estacado High School, where he helped the Matadors to multiple district and area championships and a 2025 appearance in the UIL State Semifinals. 🏆🏅 Perez brings over a decade AAU basketball coaching experience and is known for his strategic mindset, motivational leadership, and emphasis on mental toughness and discipline. This is what Coach Perez had to say about returning to his alma mater: "I'm honored to lead the boys basketball program at the school that shaped me. Lubbock High holds a special place in my heart, and I'm excited to help our athletes grow as players, students and young men." Join us in congratulating coach Jose Perez on this new journey! 🔬 Investing in middle school science experiences 🔬 Hands-on learning is critical in science education, but many of Lubbock ISD’s middle school science labs haven’t been updated in decades. The 2025 bond proposal includes funding for middle school science lab renovations, which would: ✔ Provide modern lab spaces for hands-on experiments. ✔ Improve equipment and storage for science instruction. ✔ Support STEM learning and student engagement. 💰 What can we use bond funds for?💰 School bond funds can only be used for specific projects! Texas law requires school districts to separate funding into two categories: ✔ M&O (Maintenance & Operations) Tax Rate – Pays for salaries, classroom materials, and daily school operations. ✔ I&S (Interest & Sinking) Tax Rate – Used exclusively for voter-approved bonds to fund new buildings, major renovations, and infrastructure projects.
