Welcome Directors

We hope that you are having a great start to the 2023 school year. As the band directors at Irons Middle School, we would like to personally invite you and your ensembles to perform at this year’s Irons Invitational Music Festival.

Festival Date: April 26th and 27th, 2024

Performance times/dates will be assigned on a first come, first served basis after your registration form has been completed. Special consideration will be given to schools who will have multiple groups performing. We will do our best to accommodate everyone and we appreciate your understanding as we strive to give everyone a time that matches their preference.

What is the Irons Invitational?

The Irons Invitational Music Festival is a longstanding tradition hosted at Irons Middle School and Coronado High School in Lubbock, Texas. We welcome band, orchestra, and choir members of all levels, including elementary, middle school, and high school groups. Ensembles typically perform 2 to 3 of their current pieces and receive feedback from our highly qualified judges. Directors have the option to also compete for Best in Class, where (if there is more than one ensemble in their UIL class) ensembles compete against other ensembles in their UIL class to be ranked the best of the best.

All Choral ensembles will be at Irons Middle School in Lubbock, TX.

All Instrumental ensembles will be at Coronado High School in Lubbock, TX.

REGISTRATION FEE PER ENSEMBLE IS $300. This covers registration and processing, as well as secures your spot in the festival. You must send this in prior to the festival. Refunds will not be given after registration has closed.

Ensembles will perform 2-3 pieces each. You can choose to be scored for ratings by our experienced judges panel, and compete against the other ensembles for the title of Best in Class.

How does the Best in Class portion of the competition work?

Based on the number of participants and their UIL classifications (1A Band, 2C Orchestra, 3C Treble Choir, etc.), a series of categories will be organized. If there is only one ensemble in a select UIL class, they will not compete for Best in Class. This depends on the amount of participants and will change each year. The judges will rank the ensembles of each class, and the top performer will be awarded Best in Class at the end of the festival in addition to their performance ratings and award.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. We look forward to the opportunity to serve you and your students. Best wishes!
