Mojang Studios, a Swedish video game developer Markus "Notch" Persson created Minecraft. It was first made public in May 2009, followed by an official release in November 2011, with Jens Bergsten taking over development. Since then, Minecraft has been ported across most gaming platforms. In Minecraft, players explore a blocky, randomly generated 3D world with nearly endless topography, discovering and extracting raw materials, crafting tools, and constructing structures and modifying the natural environment. Players can fight AI mobs and hostiles, as well as cooperate with or compete against other players in the same globe, in a survival world, or across thousands of minigames and other player-made events/servers.
