Mariachi
The Lubbock High School Mariachi Program offers intermediate and advanced courses designed for students with prior experience playing traditional mariachi instruments, including guitar, vihuela, guitarrón, trumpet, or violin. Focused on the rich tradition of Mexican folk music, this program allows students to deepen their instrumental skills while exploring the cultural and historical significance of the music they perform.
Students will enhance their music literacy, technical proficiency, and creative expression through an engaging curriculum that includes critical evaluation and personalized feedback. These elements are essential to their growth as musicians, helping them refine their sound and artistry.
In addition to preparing for and participating in UIL events, the Mariachi ensemble will have opportunities to perform at various community events and festivals as directed by the program leader. These performances provide valuable experience, allowing students to connect with audiences and celebrate the vibrant traditions of Mexican folk music.
Join the LHS Mariachi Program to elevate your musicianship, perform in dynamic settings, and share in the rich cultural heritage of mariachi music!
